Regional Play for the Nationals begins Saturday!

The Northport Nationals wrapped up practice yesterday on a very hot and humid afternoon. Temperatures soared into the upper 90’s and the heat index climbed well over 100 degrees. The Nationals had a successful practice despite the high temperatures and humidity. The kids played hard and never let up! Many of the kids stayed around after the 2 plus hour practice to play with friends and family.

Today the Nationals have one final day of preparation before hitting the road tomorrow where they will play Walker County in Adamsville. Adamsville is located near Birmingham a little more than an hour away from Northport. This afternoon the Nationals will have batting practice at Kentuck, where most of the players will come for a short thirty minute batting practice session.

The weather will be one of the biggest challenges tomorrow; where the temperatures are expected to climb near the 100 degree mark and the heat index expected to reach 105 to 110 degrees!

The Nationals first game begins at 2 p.m. Once the first game concludes, they will have to rest up and prepare to play a doubleheader. The second game is expected to start around 6:30 Saturday afternoon. This will be a test of endurance for our kids to see how well they hold up on this hot and humid afternoon!

The parents and coaches plan to sit the kids down under a tree or an artificial shade to cool down. They will have fruit and plenty of water and Gatorade to keep the kids hydrated during their wait between games!

Let’s all rally around these boys as they begin their journey to become the Regional, State and Dizzy Dean Champions! Go Nationals!
