Here is a brief summary of what went on in the fiscal year of 2006- Present with deaf elite wrestlers whom competed and assisted at camps as coaches.
The ones that competed in several of competitions throughout the year are Roger A. Stewart and Jeff Courtney. These competitions are senior level tournaments to whereas you qualify for the use of United States Olympic Training Center facility. As well as being recruited by team clubs such as Sunkist Kids Club, Gators Wrestling Club, Minnesota Storm Club, and New York Athletic Club. For Jeff Courtney he trained for Ivan Ivakov at US Olympic Education Training Center; Northern Michigan University in Greco-Roman. Roger Stewart trains for Terry Brands, Kevin Jackson, Memoir Petiovic, Ivan Ivanov and Steve Fraser in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the US Olympic Training Center; Colorado Springs, CO.
With that, camps were hosted at various of locations such as Austin, Texas at Texas School for Deaf (2006 & 2007 Summer) with participants of 320 wrestlers of both deaf and hearing combined, Durango, CO at Fort Lewis College (2006 & 2007 Summer), and Pocatello, Idaho 2007 Summer. Overall, combined there was a $30,000 - $45,000 grant that came in with the assist of Coach Roger Stewart along with his Coach, Rob Vialapando, Coach Steve Fraser, Coach Michael Elsworth, and Coach Ivan Ivanov.

The rest of 2007 there was no deaf elite competitors due to injuries therefore it was time to prepare for 2008.
This is all the events for this year for both hearing and deaf wrestlers as I look forward to seeing some of the best deaf wrestlers out there this year. There will be training camps in between during the summer to prepare for some of the competitions as well. The training will take place at the United States Olympic Training Center; Colorado Springs, CO or at U.S. Olympic Education Training Center; Marquette, MI.

2008 U.S. Deaflympic Trials for wrestling set for Pocatello, Idaho, June 18-21

USA Deaf Wrestling Association President Maurice Abenchuchan and National Director Rob Vialpando are proud to announce that the 2008 USA Deaflympic Trials for Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling will take place June 18-21, in Pocatello, Idaho.
Competition will feature seven weight classes in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling. The seven weight divisions are the same as those in USA Wrestling Senior-level men’s competition.
Athletes must be entered by May 1, 2008 to be eligible for competition. The cost of the entry fee is $70 and wrestlers must be 16 years of age or older to compete.
Champions from each weight division at the Deaflympic Trials will represent USA Deaf Wrestling at the 2008 World Deaf Wrestling Championships, held in Yerevan, Armenia, Sept. 22-28.
The winners will also travel as members of the USA Deaf Wrestling team to the Deaflympic Games in Taipei, Taiwan as part of the USA Deaf Sports Federation delegation. The 21st Deaflympic Games will be held Sept. 5-15 with nearly 10,000 deaf athletes from more than 100 countries taking part in the event.
The U.S. Deaflympic Trials for wrestling are sponsored by the Greater Pocatello Convention Bureau Visitors in conjunction with the 2008 USA Wrestling Western Regional. Both events will take place in Holt Arena on the campus of Idaho State University. These tournaments are sanctioned under USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body for wrestling in the U.S.
